Canada is represented by the Embassy of Canada in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Bahrain is represented in Canada by the Embassy in Washington, D.C., U.S.A.

Canada cooperates with Bahrain in many multilateral initiatives such as the Friends of Yemen process and the G8 and BMENA (Broader Middle East and North Africa) initiative. Bahrain was host to the second edition of the G8 and BMENA Forum for the Future in 2005.

Canada completed the FIPA negotiations on Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreements with Bahrain in January 2010. Bahrain is also part of the Gulf Cooperation Council area, which is considered a priority market for Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada.

Canada and Bahrain share common views on the importance of education and Canada welcomes each year many Bahraini students. Inter-university agreements further strengthen the ties between Canada and Bahrain.

Bahrain established the first free public education system in the Persian Gulf region in 1919 and the literacy rate was estimated at over 90 percent. The University of Bahrain was established in 1986 and the College of Health Sciences was founded in 1976 and trains physicians, nurses, and other health professionals.
