The Bangladesh High Commission in Ottawa started its function in May 1972 and since its opening it has been working closely with the Government of Canada. Bangladesh and Canada share common views on various international issues and work together in the Commonwealth, the United Nations and in other international forums.
The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) has been an important development partner of Bangladesh since 1972 and CIDA considers Bangladesh as a "country of focus."
The bilateral trade relations between the two countries have been intensified since January 2003 when the Canadian government announced free access for Bangladesh's products into Canada.
